Heritage Wall Plaques
The Strath Creek community now has a Heritage Entrance to the Pioneer Reserve.
The entrance gives us the opportunity to record permanently the names of people and families
who have in the past, or still do, have a connection with our village.
The Heritage Wall was installed with the generous support of the Osborne family and hosts a number of family plaques already.
You can now apply to have a plaque made and installed for your family. An example plaque is shown below. A mutually suitable date can be arranged to unveil your plaque so that family members can be present.
The plaques are made locally and cost $500. SCPA will cover any additional cost and installation.
Appliication forms are available by contacting us at scpainc.1@gmail.com

Hello Wangaratta was immersed in the sweet sounds of jazz and blues last weekend. And that music was all the sweeter thanks to the extraordinary work of a dedicated band of volunteers of the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival led by board chair Andrew Nunn. After significant funding challenges, last year was slated to be the last hurrah of this Wangaratta music institution but a ‘never say die’ approach reignited the festival! Opening night at the Wangaratta Railyard was packed out and the crowd was hopping both indoors and out! The 34th National Jazz Award Final saw six of the best Australian saxophonists under the age of thirty-six battle it out for the prestigious National Jazz Awards. Such is the status of this award that the first and second prize winners flew in from New York to participate. Congratulations to all the contestants and especially to the winner Stephen Byth, Tessie Overmyer in second place, and Oscar Bruten in third place. I was thrilled to open the community stage funded by a Federal Government grant of $52,000 and proudly listen to some amazing music including the Wangaratta High School Show Band. The locals came out in force throughout the day to enjoy this wonderful community space. My heartiest congratulations to all the organisers, volunteers and musicians. See you next year! Kind wishes, Helen
Update on childcare closures A few weeks ago, I informed you of at least five ‘Outside School Hours Care’ providers in small communities that were at risk of imminent closure after their funding was cut. I can now update you that two of the schools have secured a lifeline for their services, a significant relief for these communities that shouldn’t have faced such a stress in the first place. I am hopeful more services will also receive this funding. When my office was informed of this issue, I immediately escalated it with the Minister for Early Childhood Education for intervention. These critical care services are reliant on a funding process that isn’t appropriate in these circumstances and this week I met with the Minister to talk about a longer-term solution. I want the Government to commit to fixing this for the future.
